We believe that members of our Lakeside Community who are older and infirm deserve a place where they can receive respectful, compassionate care regardless of their ability to pay. This is the philosophy that motivated those who founded the Casa. It motivates the volunteers and employees who maintain the Casa today. Casa de Ancianos is a nonprofit home for elderly, infirm members ofthe lakeside community who need twenty tour hour care, maintenance and day careo It can accommodate thirty two residents, twenty
five in prívate or semiprívate rooms in the main house and seven in casitas or studio apartments. Currently there are Mexicans and Americans living here.

THE MONEY
Residents donate what they can for their careo This ranges from zero lo. $5,500.00 pesos per month. Money
for the Casa is also raised by activities and bazaars run by the Board. Private donations from people in Mexico and other countries are welcome.

THE HISTORY
Who created Casa de Ancianos?
In 1970 a priest, Father Raul Navarro, donated the land which is located in a quiet neighborhood in the northern part of Chapala. It is situated on a small hill overlooking a beautiful pine grave. In 1971 the Ladies Auxiliary of Chapala, headed by. Mrs. Gertrude Ratay, raised $300,000 for the buildings. The main,building was opened to residents in 1972. Later, casitas and studio apartments were added. The buildings are surrounded by beautifullawns, flowering trees and plants. You may wish to visit Casa de Ancianos to see if it is suitable for your self, a friend or lave one. The casa can not accommodate individuals needing hospitalization. Or you may wish to donate your services, some goods, or money.
